in Michael C. Keith’s
“Sounds in the Dark”, currently in publication
with a forward by Larry King. Currently she hosts “Music Highway,” an internationally
syndicated music/talk hybrid heard on over 2,400 affiliates
to nearly 130 million listeners worldwide.
In
addition, Sheena owns and runs Music
Highway Entertainment, which specializes in development
and promotion for: television, radio, music and film.
Known for her biting sense of humor, Metal appeared
as a comedic commentator on “National Inquirer TV,” is
the annual host of the All Access Music Awards, and has headlined
and emceed two long-running stand-up comedy nights at
The Laugh Factory in Hollywood (“Sheena
Metal’s Midnight
Madness” and “Inside
the Girl’s Locker Room”); the latter of which
was an all-girl comedy night featured in the Los
Angeles Times. Not
one to turn down an audience who loves to laugh, Sheena
found another comedy niche this summer when she became
the humorous emcee for a host of Gay Pride Festivals across the USA: from
the slick San Diego to the mountainous Montana.
Sheena
has appeared on the big screen, acting in the sexy comedy
“Treasure
Hunt” and can currently be seen in the indie
drama “Changing Spots”. In 2006, she joined Ally Sheedy (“The
Breakfast Club”) and Kathryn Erbe (“Law & Order: Criminal Intent”) onstage in New York City for a celebrity charity run of
“The
Vagina Monologues.”
In 2007, she reprised her role in Los
Angeles, alongside Jennifer Beals
(“Flashdance”) and Rachel Shelley (“The
L Word”). She
has penned and produced both the L.A. Cable Comedy hit
“Sheena Metal’s Freakin’ Rock Review”
(in which she also starred), as well as the outlandish
TV Soap Opera “WeHo Stories.” In 2008, Metal was named President of the
L.A.
based production company, Sea
Hag Entertainment. She
is currently producing a paranormnal documentary
slated for release in 2009 and developing/writing a
comedy mockumentary scheduled to begin production later
that same year, in which she will also direct and
appear as one of the main characters.
But
music will always remain her main focus.
As one of L.A.’s most popular live music promoters,
Sheena owns Music
Highway Productions which produces more than a dozen
concerts a month Southern California, booking artists
in venues such as such as The Key Club, The Troubadour, The Gig (including the booking/promotion of their
opening night celebration), and Slim Jim
Phantom’s (“The
Stray Cats”) Cat
Club (where she hosted a night for George Clooney’s
HBO series “Unscripted”). Currently, Metal books a variety of weekly clubs
from the the
bi-coastal showcase house, the Knitting
Factory (“Songs Rock!”), to
the historic Derby in Hollywood (“Club Carnivale”), to
the upscale Westside nightclub, the Good
Hurt (“Rock
9-1-1”) to the vibey industry hang Universal Bar and Grill (“The Dressing
Room”); right down the street from Universal
Studios and City Walk.
Recently she was asked by V-Day, the charity organization that puts
on “The Vagina Monologues” worldwide each year, to produce the music
event as part of their two-week UTVSLA
(“Until the Violence Stops: Los
Angeles”) festival.
In
2003, Sheena Metal founded an independent music organization,
Music
Highway. Boasting over 12,000 members
worldwide, Music Highway is one of the biggest
and most artist-friendly independent music resources
on the web, and its success has led to a number of speaking
engagements for Metal at conferences and conventions
throughout Southern California and beyond for such organizations
as: Independent
Music Conference, L.A.
Music Productions, Songsalive, Music Talks, Songnet, Indie Music Seminars, and the
Los Angeles Women’s Music Festival. By 2008, Sheena
Metal had added two highly coveted positions to her
vast musical resume: Director of A&R for Maurice the Fish Records; where she is not only in charge of bringing
the label new talent, but also runs their Los Angeles
office and Music Supervisor for Ave
Vox Entertainment; placing music for both television
and film. By 2010, Sheena plans to take her musical
expertise beyond assistance and create her own artist-based
charity that will provide financial assistance to entertainers
who’ve either been badly injured in accidents or who’ve
fallen victim to illness.
Not
one to linger too long behind-the-scenes, Metal regularly
struts her stuff as the front person for the irreverent,
theatrical L.A. favorite, Sheena
Metal’s Beer Bong: endorsed by Minarik
Guitars, Daisy Rock Guitars, Stash Picks, Coffin Cases, Peaceland Guitar
Rings, Studio
Devil software, and the adult toy company, Grrl
Toyz. Recently,
the band won the coveted All
Access Magazine People’s Choice Award, was voted
one of Music
Connection’s Hot 100 Unsigned, and was asked to
play at a private party for the prestigious
NAMM (National Association of Music Makers)
Convention, while they work on the release of their
first full-length album, “The
Funnel Of Love.”
Lastly,
Sheena’s vast experience in many aspects of entertainment
has made her a sought-after featured writer for hundreds
of magazines including: the Los Angeles Times, Music Connection, LA Weekly, Curve, Planet Out, Frontiers, New Music Weekly, Unsigned and All Access.
In 2006, she began to pen a syndicated
music column, “Music Highway”,
as a companion to her weekly radio show, which has attained
over 100 literary affiliates, including the renowned
Indie Bible. In January 2008, one such
publication, NoHo Arts District Magazine, promoted Metal to Music Editor, where she overseas the creative
comings and goings for the magazine that services one
of Southern California’s most rapidly growing artistic
communities.
From
her eccentric beginnings as a cable access TV cult figure,
to LA music industry icon, mainstream talk radio host,
indie film actor, headlining stand-up comic, New York/Los
Angeles stage performer, writer/director/producer, and
in-demand journalist, Sheena Metal has truly earned
the title Queen of the Nighttime World.
